Seemingly, overnight Laad has gone from a messenger to the leader of the king’s entire army. He believes it is all by chance. Unaware that those close to him are guiding his destiny and have been from the very moment he took his first breath while holding true to a sworn secret until the right time comes to reveal it.
But, when the right time comes Laad ignores the truth. He continues to live a lie and remains the leader of the king’s entire army only to realize ignoring his destiny is impossible within the kingdom he lives and loves.
A kingdom of loyal men and fierce warriors sworn to defend it and all within to their deaths, but a kingdom far from ideal as murder, betrayal, and lust weaken loyalties and test trusts.
[This novel contains material of extreme graphic violence, m/m sex, and m/m love.]

### Review
I was torn about how to write this review, some may think this is a negative review but it's not meant to be. I thought this story could have been really good but it missed the mark for me with a bit of re-working I could see this being a really good read. The story is a long one about 1240 Kindle pages and with a story that long I better be invested in it fairly early on or I find I struggle to read it. While this one wasn't necessarily a huge struggle I did have some trouble staying completely engaged, so it took me longer than it usually does to read a story of this size.
Unfortunately I never found myself connecting with any of the characters, there were too many characters and couples being introduced too close together and that almost lost me. Trying to follow everyone's storyline got a bit confusing but that does iron itself out somewhat, in my opinion a few less prominent characters would have been a good thing. This book will not be for everyone, first it's a historical with both M/M and M/F relationships with on page sex and second there are a lot of battle scenes, both were fairly graphic. As far as romance goes I think because I didn't connect to anyone I didn't feel any romance between any of the couples.
This is the author's first work and I thought for a first it was well done and had great potential. The story idea was a good one, I just felt it was in need of a little tightening up. There were some typos, grammar mistakes and confusing sentences but unless that takes me out of a story I over look it. I'm horrible at grammar and I make a lot of mistakes so I never judge on that alone. I'll be interested to see what else this author brings us, I sincerely hope she continues writing.
