Comedy of Life

Life is best explained as a joke. If you are a pasty science nerd—even a magically augmented, one—and a beautiful, experienced French woman pays you a lot of attention, look for the punch line. Remember, the Karma Fairy has a brutal sense of humor and nothing happens in a vacuum. Large, earth shaking events, no matter how well hidden, tend to attract attention, and inoffensive nerdy guys, even with good intentions, sitting on a pile of power are viewed as lunch.

That summer, I thought, once again, that the worst was over. The force seemed to be with me. I was getting in shape, had a well paying, if soul-polluting job, a new sister, the attentions of two(!) beautiful girls, and I believed no one was trying to kill me. Turns out, ignorance can be fatal.

What a funny old world.
